1. Choose to work in PowerPoint or Microsoft Word to take notes. In PowerPoint, create a new slide for each of your essential questions; in Microsoft Word, use a new page for each of your essential questions. When you are done with the note-taking step, you will upload it onto your Notes wikispace page as a file. This way, your notes are backed up offline, and your teacher will easily be able to access and review your notes.
2. As you gather answers to each of your essential questions, you will be summarizing, paraphrasing, and/or copying and pasting information from each source into the particular slide or page for the essential question being answered. Be sure to put quotes around any information directly copied from a source!
3. Each source that you use in the note-taking process should be added into Bibme; this will become your works cited page, which is a requirement for your final paper.
4. You must have information from AT LEAST TWO sources for each of your essential questions. This means that you should have at least two in-text citations on each slide/page. Pay attention to the You Tube video on intext citations!!! In-text citations are an essential part of any research paper, and it all begins with the note-taking process. It is much easier to keep track of your sources with in-text citations now then to try and do it later.
Please note: The research process is not linear! It is natural that you will be changing and revising your essential questions as you go through this process.
